About

Hello! I'm Mark B and I like to painting little worlds inspired by nature, folk stories and whimsy. My loves in life include tea, the BBC World Service, Tove Jansson, baking, Oliver Postgate, the colour green, David Attenborough documentaries, cloudless skies and silent movies. I also have a near superhuman capacity for eating cherry bakewells. I live in a small village with my girlfriend, Sarah, who makes jewellery (www.pennymasquerade.com) & a small puppy named Totoro.

So it’s been a busy few months here, I’m getting ready to move house (later today!) & I am positively giddy about the prospect of having a desk big enough to fit both my paints & myself (something which, at present, is nearly impossible). Fortunately I’ve also had a little free time to spend on my shop and have 2 exciting bits of news:

1. I’m now offering free international shipping when you buy any 3 or more prints &

2. I’ve put up 14 new prints!

You can find them all here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/wintersmoke

I’m also busy working away on new animals as well as some larger prints which I’ll start posting up soon!

Mark

Life is rapidly running away from me at the moment - every second seems to have been accounted for of late between work, readying to move house and best man duties for my friend.

The good news is that my best man duties are now done (the wedding was wonderful & my speech went very well despite my massive nerves about public speaking!) and I now have a couple of weeks before the next big task of moving in to my first owned house (exciting). As such I’ll be using the time to put up some new prints - I have 14 new little animals waiting to to be freed upon the world :) As soon as these are ready I shall post them here.

Also Rebecca from the lovely littletree designs blog put a post up about my prints here:

You can check her wonderful blog out here also, it’s well worth a read:

TTFN!

Hello lovely people!

I’ve put an offer up on my little shop: any 3 prints for $25 - you’ll even make a small saving on shipping buying this way. All you need to do is follow the link!

https://www.etsy.com/listing/126332491/any-3-6x4-prints-for-25-dollars?

Once again, apologies for the prolonged radio silence - I’ve been working hard away on my Etsy shop (www.etsy.com/shop/wintersmoke) recently. So the big news is that I’ve made all my prints available in different colours! I nearly went insane from all the hours spent photoshopping but I’m really happy with how they’ve turned out.

Next up on my ‘to do list’ is putting more prints up - I’ve currently got some animals ready to go and am painting up a handful more this week, but am also working on some other subjects which I’ll keep you all posted on.

It’s been a little quiet as of late due to throwing my back out (I feel positively ancient, ugh) however as I’m on the mend I thought I’d post a little doodle. Hopefully this week I should able to put up a few new pictures up on my store & will put them up here.

PS: Just noticed this is the second post in a row of a girl with antlers. Obviously my mind is pre-occupied something, although god knows what…

I’ve started posting on Pinterest - I’m putting up loads of good stuff, like my favourite silent films, illustrators I like, etc. You can find a link in the left hand menu and below so check it out!

So, today is a big day for me, I’m opening up my shop! I’m really rather excited about this and have been working a long time towards it. I’m opening up with an initial lot of 30 paintings which I will be uploading over the next day or two. My shop can be found here and you can also get to it by clicking on the ‘shop’ button in the left hand column.

I hope you like it and I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Hello!

Welcome to my little website, thanks for visiting, you’re the best! Over time there will be lots of lovely stuff here but for the moment I think a short introduction is in order.

I’m Mark (nice to meetcha) & I love to paint. My earliest memories are of drawing and since that point I never wanted to do anything apart from be an artist (well I also wanted to be a ghostbuster, but turns out that wasn’t really very feasible). I live in a small village with my girlfriend, Sarah, who makes jewellery and a fluffy 11 month old puppy named Totoro.

I’m inspired by wildlife, folklore and nature & my loves in life are afternoon tea, Oliver Postgate cartoons, silent films, the colour green, Moomins, David Attenborough documentaries, autumn, Roald Dahl, baking and the BBC World Service among many things. I also have a near superhuman capacity for eating cherry bakewells.

Anyway, I shall leave it there for the moment but please check back for lots of news and updates, including my shop opening later this week! Thanks again for visiting.
